Ideas for Good Blogging Series (Part 1): Treasure Box
Simple ideas can change the world.
Over the next few weeks, I will be highlighting several great ideas making significant impact in our world today. These ideas are from people just like you and me who have chosen to invest in the lives of others through innovative ideas for good. Some of the stories will be from individuals, non-profits, and/or businesses. My hope is that you will see good ideas for good in action and be inspired and challenged in your own efforts to benefit humanity.
To kick off this series, I’d like to highlight a great business called Treasure Box.
Treasure Box is a business that partners with faith-based and community-action organizations to provide families with affordable food and bring communities together, one box at a time.
Here’s a synopsis of what they do:
Treasure Box partners with over 500 major food manufacturers to provide a substantial box of grocery store quality food for just $30 each (normally retailing between $65-$100). They purchase and provide top quality, nutritious food at sizeable volume discounts to the general public. According to their website:
Each Treasure Box contains between 21-25 pounds of high quality, frozen foods, including chicken, pork, beef, or seafood, as well as vegetables, fruit, a side dish and a dessert. One Treasure Box is enough food to nutritiously feed a family of four lunch and dinner for almost a week or a senior citizen for nearly a month.
These boxes can be purchased in some states via their website and picked up from several host locations, usually at community-based organizations. Treasure Box’s ultimate hope is to families out (regardless of income level) during these tough financial times by providing affordable meals.
The Treasure Box is a division of Good Source Solutions, a food distribution company with more than 20 years of service to non-profits, higher education institutions, government feeding programs and specialty markets.
