Life Scribbles: Thankful Not to Know
As much we try to anticipate and plan for remarkable, memory-making moments in life, the reality is that we’ll rarely know whether or not we’re in these moments until the moments have passed. Our moments of significant success, pain, or even failure will most often come by surprise. Life is that unpredictable. Much of life is enjoyed in hindsight through memory, even if that memory is of an experience that just passed.
So, can we truly be in the moment?
To me, it doesn’t matter. In fact, I’m glad not to know when a “moment” will come. I think life is more enjoyable and less stressful that way. The amount of unnecessary stress put on hypothetical moments in life can often become paralyzing or deeply disheartening.
Enjoy life as it comes. Do your planning, but expect detours. You probably don’t want to know of all that you will be successful in or responsible for in the future anyway. 🙂
Endure pain when it shows up and thank God that you didn’t see most of it coming. The alternative of knowing isn’t necessarily the best alternative.
Thankful not to know.
