Life is full of things that “need to get done now”. Important deadlines, urgent emails, and unexpected disruptions all feel like legitimate reasons to keep moving and reacting to what’s right in front of us.
Stop! You might be killing your soul.
Continuing in this kind of lifestyle will rob you of fulfilled living. It’s a recipe for discouragement, disillusionment, and even depression. While it’s true that you may feel productive and significant in the midst of your efforts, you will eventually find yourself wondering if it was all worth it.
No, I’m not saying that you only do things that you want to do. Life definitely doesn’t work that way. Nevertheless, removing activities that give you perspective, focus, and purpose will siphon out joy and a deep sense of fulfillment.
I know that we’re all “busy”. So what?
Shouldn’t we still regularly inject activities that ultimately matter to us at the end of the day?
If so, give yourself permission to slow down or stop periodically to do what matters most. For me, these are things like time with family, reflective writing, prayer, and participating in acts of care for others. If I don’t do these things on a regular basis, I often find myself searching for the soul I once had.
