Winter Boots for North Korean Children
North Korea is quite literally one of the darkest countries in our world. Although it refers to itself as the “Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”, in my opinion, it’s anything but democratic. It is a single party state under the dictatorship of Kim Jong-il. It is a country that often deprives its citizens of basic human rights and continues to keep them disconnected from the rest of the world.
As a result, many aid organizations have, understandable so, ceased to be present in North Korea. Fortunately, there are some great organizations continuing to provide much needed direct help to the people of North Korea. One such organization is the Sun Yang Hana Foundation.
Sun Yang Hana Foundation has helped 12 orphanages and 10 villages in North Korea. In addition, over the past two years, they have distributed over 34,000 pairs of warm winter boots for children; many of whom do not have the resources to purchase shoes. This effort has helped many children in freezing weather survive the winter in North Korea.
The Hana Foundation hopes to give away 15,000 more pairs of shoes this January to children all throughout North Korea. Most of these will be going directly to orphans, from preschool age all the way up to teens. For the past few years, they had been donating strictly to younger children. But, as the Foundation visited and followed up with these orphanages, they have been overwhelmed with the plea to widen the age range so that many more children could have winter shoes.
Will you join me this winter in helping them reach their goal of 15,000 pairs of winter boots?
The price for producing a child’s boot is only $8.50 and $11.50 for teens. For a $20 donation, you can help get a pair of boots to both a child and a teen in North Korea.
Please consider helping out and click here to donate.
Many thanks in advance for participating this!
