C.S. Lewis is by far one of my favorite authors of all time. His books have really shaped the way I think about our world. Lewis is one of the few authors that had the unique ability to write both intriguing fiction and inspiring non-fiction.
One of Lewis’ most popular series of books is called The Chronicles of Narnia, originally written as fantasy novels for children over 50 years ago. Over 100 million copies of this series has been sold and many consider it a classic in literature.
In 2005, Walden Media launched a new series of films based on this series. In December of this past year (2010), the third installment of the series “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader” hit the theaters. The DVD for this film is set to release this Friday April 8th!

C.S. Lewis had a huge impact on me beginning in high school that continues today. His books (mainly the apologetics, but also in some ways the Narnia series) made me think differently. During such formative years when I was being taught how to think, Lewis’s books didn’t only encourage, but they MADE me look at life, Christianity, Heaven and Hell, etc. outside the box. The books were written completely differently than any of the books that I’d read up to that point, and they heavily relied on my own interpretation of the subject matter. As I go back and read through the books again and again (especially The Great Divorce- my favorite) I pick up new things and take away new thoughts each time. I love it!!
Also I just got a Blu-Ray player.. So bonus!!

My very first memories of reading is the Chronicles of Narnia series… I simply couldn’t put them down. And that is saying a lot for a little girl who was NOT the biggest fan of reading, much less anything that my dad told me to read. But I suppose this was the first thing my dad and I had in common as a youngster- a love for C.S. Lewis books. I then knew that I would love any writing of his, and I have.
One of my favorite quotes from C.S. Lewis is, “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the Sun has risen, not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” I even put it on my graduation announcement. I think it is a statement that truly portrays his boldness for what he believed. I bet my dad didn’t see THAT one coming when he gave me the Magician’s Nephew for my birthday!
I bet this would make a great date night with my dad and myself!

My first introduction to CS Lewis was the summer before fourth grade when I read the Chronicles of Narnia. I loved them then, and I love them now! Of course, I love many things about my husband, but his same affinity for Narnia endeared him to me even more. And now we have had the joy of introducing our children to CS Lewis’ world of our Narnian friends. I love “showing” them the new characters and the new ideas. Lewis always leads to great conversations, even with our 7 and 10 year olds. Our boys enjoy the books, too, and I can only imagine that one day they will also be reading them to their children, continuing the conversations about talking Beavers, Fawns, being a King at such a young age, and of course, the Lion named Aslan, and how it all relates to our life.
As to why I would really like my very own copy of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader – well, who wouldn’t?! And once you’ve read the book, THEN you can watch the movie. Since we have all read the book, we can watch (well, re-watch, since we saw it in the theater!) the movie. Maybe the real reason I’d live a blue-ray – my kids will think I am super cool. Maybe not quite as cool as Dad who won an iPad. But a definite close second!

Though he’d died 5 years before I was born, C.S. Lewis became one of my best friends when I was in the fourth grade. Up until that point I’d read and enjoyed countless children’s books, but had never before discovered an authors “voice”. When I picked up The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, and read those first few pages, I was hooked: Here was a writer who—though he was telling me a fantasy story—let me into more than just his imagination, but also, somehow, shared his soul with me. By the time I was done with the series, I was quite convinced that if I ever met the man I would immediately be able to have a great conversation with him.
I grew up hearing that voice. After reading “The Chronicles” a few times between 4th and 7th grade, I graduated to The Space Trilogy, and then picked up The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, just because I had found out that Tolkien and Lewis were friends. That led me to explore George MacDonald since he influenced both of those men.
My mind started to stretch towards meatier pursuits, and though I’d never leave behind the fiction of Lewis (I still read them every couple of years) I followed my friend into theology. The Screwtape Letters; Mere Christianity; The Great Divorce; The Problem of Pain; Surprised by Joy. Eventually I would find as much as I could that was written by Lewis in the form of compilation books. I even tried to dig into his academic studies, but never quite took a deep enough interest in that realm of thought to enjoy it.
But Lewis’ creative and critical thinking about God served me well. I read most of these works well before I ever had any inkling that I would be a pastor, but after following God that direction, I had already built a good foundation for thought through “conversations” with my friend. Because even though I had long since found out about his death, Clive Staples Lewis remained a great companion as I became an adult and as I followed God’s call into pastoral ministry.

my fondest memories of C.S. Lewis is the Narnia series when my 2nd grade teacher read them to our class. What amazed me the most that still affects me to this day is that kids could encounter the maker of the universe and change the world around them. and even though the story was fantasy, it draws many people into a story of hope and desire that we can better our world regardless of our “status”. now that may be stretching the context, but i can at least say that this was the effect it was for me.
i would love a copy of this new video so that i can share this story with my girls. as they are a new generation that is affected my media more than my generation or any generation before me.

C.S. Lewis was the first author that showed me I could love reading. I just got into college and it was first time in my life I was following Jesus, and my mentor gave me Mere Christianity to read. I’ll never forget how simple yet so profound it was. Mere Christianity helped to lay a foundation in me which led me to read Screwtape Letter and The Great Divorce.
I would really like a copy because I would love to hear Aslan ROAR through my surround sound on a pretty picture blu-ray

My first experience with C.S. Lewis was The Screwtape Letters, which I did a report on when I was in school. It was such a finely crafted work. I couldn’t leave it alone. After I finished, I went on to read the Narnia stories (which I loved) and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie versions. I hope they continue making the rest of them. I was also deeply moved by one of his lesser known works, A Grief Observed, which was of course a book about coping with great loss.
I would love to win this to share with my family. We are movie lovers and we own the first two, but have yet to see this one. Thanks for hosting this giveaway.

My first experience with CS Lewis was a production of The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe I saw during elementary school. I fell inlove and soon after read all the novels. I grew up watching the classic BBC productions of all the novels and now I enjoy the new versions of the classic.
I hope to win this because it will be a nice addition to my collection of all the novels in hardcover, audio book and all the previous films.
Why I should win?
1) I’m a huge fan of CS Lewis works. Not just the Chronicles series but his short stories and poetry are great as well.
2) I’m a student so i don’t have a ton of money right now to buy the movie
